August is an evening
roll down the windows: let the
sticky heat settle in: watch how calm-
ly the moon ushers out the day. so cool
with a popsicle melting in your fingers: so cool with your face
orange then red then orange again. of
course, sing the cicadas, of course, the kudzu
cries out, of course, the clay river whispers. you asked
for a bleeding sun, for
an evening among fireflies, for a kiss.
Sarah Mae Dizon is a freshman at George Mason University studying Communication. She is a first generation Filipino-American who, in between cups of coffee, likes to write a thing or two.
